CDA Equivalency

Important Note:  As of June 30, 2005, all individuals working in a child care facility with a Florida CDAE or National CDA must complete the renewal process every 5 years to maintain an active credential.  For more information or to download a CDAE Renewal Application, click here.

Requirements for Enrollment in the CDAE Program

The Child Care Association offers a Child Development Equivalency program (CDAE).  The CDAE is a six (6) month comprehensive training program. The requirements for the course are:

  • Must be 18 years of age

  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent

  • Have 480 hours of experience working directly with children 5-years old or younger within the last five years

  • Must have completed or in process of completing their 40-hour Child Care Worker's Course

  • For acceptance to the CDAE program, participants must submit the following documents:  High School Diploma or GED, a letter documenting 480 hours working with children and a copy of 40-hour Child Care Workers Course Certificate to the Training Department.

Cost of Resource Materials

  • CDA Course - $95.00

  • Textbook - $30.00

Enhancements/Additions

The Child Care Association's CDA Equivalency Course has expanded to include age specific endorsements:

  • If you are working with infants, toddlers or 2-year old children, you will now be able to receive a special Infant/Toddler Endorsement on your CDAE certificate.

  • If you are a Family Child Care Provider you will now be able to receive a special Family Child Care Endorsement on your CDAE certificate.

  • As always if you are working with preschool children, you will receive a Preschool Endorsement on your CDAE certificate.

  • If you have previously completed the State-mandated 40-hour course, you need only sign up for the 80-hour CDAE course.  This will be combined with your 40-hour course to give you the required 120 CDAE hours.

Upon completion of the Child Care CDA Equivalency Program you will be prepared to apply for the National Child Development Associate Credential with endorsements in either Preschool, Infant/Toddler or Family Child Care.
